암허스트 공원(Amherst Park)은 9월 10일부터 한국전쟁(Korean War) 동안, 또 1951년에 가평(Kapyong)에서 있는 전투에 참전한 군인들을 기리기 위하여 가평공원(Kapyong Park)이라고 이름이 바뀌어 불리게 되었습니다.
또한 그 이름은 가평전투(the Battle of Kapyong)에서 싸웠고, 2014년까지 위니펙에 기지를 두었던 2PPCLI 연대(regiment)에 붙은 이름을 강화하도록 변경했습니다.
가평공원 명명식에는 한국전쟁 참전 군인들, 연아 마틴 연방상원의원, 한인회, 한인노인회 관계자들이 참석했습니다.
